Description

The story of the Little Sister began with the puzzling question of how the early delta bluesmen fascinated a listener with a guitar and their simple, yet soulful vocal lines.

We collected samples from the 1920s and 30s, many of which were in poor condition and needed complete restoration, and began to create the unique design that would best serve the guitar sound we became hooked on. And so the Little Sister was born.

We nitpick the old-growth timber for the tops and refine it to a rustic soundboard. The Cedar of Lebanon has the most acoustic-like tonal quality out of all of our electrics. At first, the COL may appear as the most delicate sounding Little Sister, but add dirt, and it's the ultimate blues machine.

Soft V Neck Shape

Our Soft V neck profile is inspired by a vintage acoustic neck, solid yet comfortable, to retain our trademark parlor feel and facilitate the thumb fretting technique.

Handmade Electronics

Each pickup is wound by hand with AWG42 lacquered enamel copper wire, powered by our in-house AlNiCo II and AlNiCo V magnets and covered by our handmade brass covers.

Solid Cedar

Sometimes luck is on our side, like when we found an incredible stash of Cedar of Lebanon, just outside of our workshop. It was like the wood was patiently waiting for us. The Cedar of Lebanon is a sweet, delicate sounding wood, with warm rounded trebles and a special acoustic tonal quality.

Cedrus Libani or Lebanon Cedar has been known since the dawn of history as a strong and beautiful tree. It is mentioned in various ancient texts, including several references in the Bible. King Solomon used this species of Cedar to build the Great Temple in Jerusalem. For a true vintage electric experience, the control layout has a volume knob for each pickup and a master tone control knob. This arrangement allows for infinite shades of blending between the two hand-wound P90 pickups so that the player can find their own voice, as well as ‘solo' each pickup. To top it off, the vintage 50s wiring enables a true and clear tone. The Cedar of Lebanon looks as unique as it sounds. Treated with a natural aniline dye, and finished with a hand-rubbed shellac coating, for the thinnest, lightest, and most resonant finish possible. Golden era lutherie

B&G Private Build guitars are hand-built using the traditional techniques from the ‘Golden Era' of electric lutherie, delivering a vintage feel, look, and sound, straight out of the case.

Pre-war mythology

The Little Sister design is a reinterpretation of the Pre-War acoustics. B&G's goal was to create a classic yet fresh, unique instrument, as easy and cozy to play as those almost mythical guitars. Hence the neck joint at the 14th fret, the slotted headstock, and the classic non-cutaway body shape.

Chambered lightweight body

The carved, chambered body, in genuine mahogany, delivers unique acoustic features. It achieves a delicate balance between body resonance and resistance to feedback, that results in an organic, vocal quality to the sound, and a tactile, responsive playing feel. The guitar is by consequence featherlight, but without any compromise on her stability and strength.

Traditional glues

Glue is one of the critical elements in the building of a guitar. Traditional hide glue for the neck joint, fish glue for the frets, and urea formaldehyde for the top, all crystalize like glass when dry, creating a substantially thinner layer between the different parts, which allows for optimal string energy transfer -- significantly better than modern synthetic glues.

One-way truss rod

Single, one-way truss rods are lighter and require a smaller channel in the neck. This building technique also demands neck woods that are perfectly aged, plus accurate installation of the truss rod. Private Build B&G Guitars only use this specific truss rod design, for improved tone transfer and sustain.

B&G Private Build pickup

Private Build pickups are developed and hand-wound in-house, to ensure that specific nuance of vintage tone we wanted for our guitars. The COL comes packed with a set of our crystal clear P90s, unpotted. They are based on AlNiCo magnets and 42AWG Lacquered enamel copper wire, which are voiced to perfection. The brass cover is also integral to the tone equation, resulting in the unparalleled, airy, warm, and organic tone of a B&G Guitar.

Proprietary aged brass hardware

Brass is a beautiful metal for guitar hardware. It brilliantly transfers the entire frequency spectrum, without sounding too ‘metallic'. B&G is using proprietary brass hardware that is uniquely aged for a vintage look and tone.

Rule of 18

The vintage-size frets are precisely installed on the fingerboard, using the historic "Rule of 18" (24 ¾" scale), to ensure the comfortable playability that only a vintage instrument can deliver.

Cedar top

Cedar has been, for centuries, the primary choice of luthiers when building a classical guitar. Softer and less dense than spruce and maple, it delivers a slightly warmer and sweeter tone, with impressive, flourishing radiation of harmonics. It is certainly one of the tonewoods most appreciated by players who rely on dynamics, nuance, detail, and touch responsiveness.

Antique aniline dye & shellac

To allow the maximum tonal transparency, the most acoustic sounding of the Little Sisters is offered only with an antique aniline dye finish, enriched by a hand-layered traditional shellac coating. The Little Sister Cedar of Lebanon fascinates with her warm, natural, vintage-inspired hue.
